Nobody really needed another 3D engine. That was never quite the point.

The 3D Engine Nobody Asked For (But I Had to Make) followed RetroMesh from the first rotating triangles to the rendering, collision detection, procedural terrain, particle systems and real-time physics behind The Omega Strain.

The talk was less about competing with established engines and more about engineering curiosity: what happens when you build the hard parts yourself, understand every pixel on screen and discover that real-time systems have a great deal to teach us about state, timing, performance and architecture.

Jarle presented the 60-minute session at NDC Oslo 2026 in Oslo Spektrum.

The recording is coming soon. NDC expects to publish the video in October 2026. We will add it here when it becomes available.
